FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL INFORMATION:

1.   Is there any fee for my Tax return?

Our tax preparation is entirely FREE to you.

2.  What if I lost my Social Security card?

Apply to Social Security for a new one (usually received in 7-10 days).

3.   What if I did not receive all my Tax forms?

Contact your employer, bank, etc.  See our Checklist for taxpayer downloading of certain forms.

4.   How can I check on my Refund?

Go to Where's my Refund on the irs.gov website.

5.   Can Danbury-VITA do out-of-state returns?

Yes, we can do Tax Returns for any State.

7.   What are the office hours during Tax Season?

          Danbury (152 DeerHill Ave)

8.   What COVID precautions are in place?

All volunteers are vaccinated, and will wear masks.

        All clients are required to wear masks, and to sit in the hallway areas at our sites.

9. Do I need an Appointment?   

Yes, you need an Appointment and time slots fill up quickly.

10. Do you take Walk-ins?

We take Walk-ins if time permits (e.g., last-minute cancellation).

11.   What should I bring to my Appointment?

SS card, Driver’s License, Tax docs (Find Checklist on Our Services) .  Plus, facemask.

12.  Does my spouse have to come to my appointment? 

Yes, both you and your spouse need to be present, to review & sign the Return.

13. I did not file a Tax return last year. Can VITA do it?

Yes:  bring all Tax documents for the prior year.

          Note:  During your appointment, we will do your 2022 Tax Return first.   

            If there is not enough time left, we can do your Prior Year return in the off-season.

14.   Does Danbury-VITA have Spanish or multilingual speakers?

Yes. Schedule your appointment on Monday or Saturday.

15.   Will I receive a copy of my completed Tax return?

           Yes, you will receive a printed copy for your records.

ONLINE TAX PREPARATION:

16.   How does it work?   

          We use a secure, IRS-approved service, called GetYourRefund.org (GYR).

17.  Can I do GYR via my cell phone?  Or my computer?

         Yes:  You need a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

18.   How will I send my tax documents? How will the Tax Preparer work with me?

         You will upload photos of your IDs & Tax forms, to the GYR app/website. (Or upload files from computer)

         You will communicate with us, using Text and/or Email via GYR.

19.   How long does the process take?   

          It usually completes in 5-7 days, from start to finish.

20.   Can I speak directly with my Tax Preparer?

          Yes, you can request a phone call.

21.   Will I receive a copy of my completed Tax return?    

          Yes, you will receive a copy thru GYR, to download/print, for your records.

22.   I did not file a Tax return last year. Can Danbury-VITA do it online?

          Yes, the GYR App/website allows up to 3 prior years.

          You need to provide all Tax documents for each prior year.

           Note:  Our top priority is 2022 returns.  Prior Year returns take a bit longer.

23.   Does Danbury-VITA have Spanish-speakers for online?    

          Yes, we do.  Note:  on GYR, you can select Spanish as your language.
